Business security

Safer Wi Fi habits for your small business

Protect your business network and make better decisions when working away from the office.

Separate guests from business systems.

A guest network can help keep visitors’ devices away from the systems your employees use. Check the actual isolation settings rather than relying on a different network name alone.

Manage the network equipment.

Keep router and access point firmware current, change default administrative credentials, and restrict management access. Use supported equipment and an appropriate modern Wi Fi security mode.

Be deliberate on unfamiliar networks.

Confirm the correct network name, avoid joining lookalike networks, and follow your organization’s remote access policy. For sensitive work, an approved connection or a trusted mobile hotspot may be more appropriate.

Wi Fi security is one layer.

Endpoint protection, secure accounts, updates, and backups remain important regardless of the network. A VPN can protect traffic along a particular connection, but it does not make a phishing page safe or repair a compromised device.

ECC can help you assess priorities through a cybersecurity consulting engagement.
